Day 28: Me & My Advanced Maternal Age

Finally received a response from Mackay regarding pregnancy test and other instructions in a letter from our doctor, to be given to our doctor in Manila also if our pregnancy test turns out positive.

We are told to have our blood HCG test the following day, Oct. 6.  In our previous IVF clinic, the test we had were beta HCG tests.  Googled it and they are one and the same.  Quantitative blood test for pregnancy.

Advanced maternal age?  I’m 35 by the way.  I thought advanced maternal age would be 40s.  I do not like the sound of it but that’s so much better than the HOWEVER part 🙂

Attached to the letter are other details of our treatment. Here they are, our 8 embryos / chances to have a baby, graded.  Will know tomorrow if it will be 8 still or 7 chances left when I take my blood test.

What do those grades mean?  I googled and found this – they must have used the same grading system.   The number of embryos transferred depends on the quality of the embryo and the patient’s age. In our case, the doctor decided to transfer just one.

Here are more details about the grading system, from advancedfertility.com.

EB must stand for early blastocyst.

More from the website:

Definition of a blastocyst:

  • An embryo which has developed to the point of having 2 different cell components and a fluid cavity
  • Human embryos from in vitro fertilization in culture in an IVF lab, or developing naturally in the body, usually reach blastocyst stage by day 5 after fertilization
  • Blastocyst transfer with IVF can give high pregnancy success rates with very low risk of triplets

I thank God that we have 8 embryos that reached blastocyst and that their grades seem ok.

Stayed at home the whole day, watched a movie from Netflix (surprisingly interesting and funny.  Shed a tear on one scene – hormones?)

Went out in the evening – had a blessed time of studying God’s Word with friends.

Love is patient,
love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

That’s how my last day of “acting like a pregnant lady but not really officially pregnant yet” ends.  Hoping for the best!  Thank God for another day of His blessings 🙂
